Today I had to walk through the intersection at Davie and Denman. In order to cross the intersection twice you have to wait twice where as vehicles only have to do this once.
The intersection is surprising vehicle oriented considering that you have the English bay beaches, sea wall and the draw of great local, independent retail, entertainment, and food businesses on Denman St.
One very simple way to greatly improve the appeal and aesthetics of this high traffic tourist location would be to install a scramble crosswalk. A scramble crosswalk introduces a new traffic light sequence that allows the same frequency of pedestrian crossing from any intersection corner to another. All traffic directions would be stopped, and cyclists could proceed by walking their bike through. This would eliminate an extra wait for pedestrians and show that the city is actually prioritizing pedestrians.
